It's the imperfections that make it believable. Th It's the imperfections that make it believable. This is a work in progress, but I'm liking where it's going. If someone were to pick this up when it is finished and be surprised to find out it isn't made of metal, I will consider my job to be done. Making and designing sometimes comes straight out Making and designing sometimes comes straight out of necessity. I have stuff and not a whole lot of places to put it. I had a side of a bookcase not doing anything so I designed a hanging shelf system... you know, for stuff. I didn't want to use hardware and only used pieces of filament to pin everything together. It's not supposed to hold a whole lot of weight, yet it is surprisingly strong. I also designed it to have a solid insert so I could place smaller objects that wouldn't like the holes. Fairly simple, not at all sexy; but at least I now have a place to put my little goofy robots. #3dprinting #3dmodelling
Back again from another hiatus from social media w Back again from another hiatus from social media with a model I finished a few months ago. This is the 1/1000 scale Discovery Enterprise by Polar Lights. Built mostly box stock, using their lighting and decal sets. I did add photoetch by Paragrafix and 3D printed bridge and shuttles I found on Thingiverse. I like the design, but thought that despite the wonderful nods to the original, the mode,l as it appeared in the show, appealed too much to the colorless "blah" of modern sci-fi. So rather than paint it in a metallic, I used more of a concrete gray as my base. Applied decals over that and then knocked them back a bit with a light dusting of the hull color. Sealed it in a satin coat and finally applied a light clear gloss aztec pattern for more specular interest. I tried to pick out colors and details from the original for better contrast that the reference material lacked. I also added some color shift blue on the leading edge of the neck as a subtle nod to the original as well. This was a quick familiarization build and there are plenty of things I would do different the next time around. Wouldn't mind doing a build that reflected the changes they made for Strange New Worlds. Anyway, it's not "screen accurate", and I'm fine with that. Build your models for you... unless you're lucky enough to to get paid to build 'em! LLAP #modelmaking #startrek #enterprise #strangenewworlds #polarlights #paragrafix
